Flameworked is very honored to present the first collaboration between two of the industries’ masters of Italian cane work, Marcel Braun and Harold Willams Cooney I was thrilled when I heard Cooney was coming to Oregon to collaborate with some of the esteemed artists in the area. I have been a fan of his classically influenced style since I first saw his bead work, so when he started making pipes and traveling west to collab, I kept my fingers crossed these two artists would join forces. This stunning piece is a showcase for these two masters of the Venetian style, from Harold’s intricate lace-like zanfirico and ballotini cane sections to Marcel’s perfectly symmetrical air-trap reticello work. Harold contributed 5 sections plus a section for the downstem. The dazzling red and white cab on the back of the piece flawlessly matches the downstem that Marcel shaped and cold-worked. In addition to the downstem, Marcel also created the two air-trap reticello sections for this piece well as undertaking final assembly to give us all this breathtaking piece of art. Black lip-wraps from the mouthpiece down separate each section as one final classy touch from Marcel. This beauty measures in at just under 7 inches tall, with a 14 mm male joint with a removable downstem featuring Marcel’s new ‘rat-tail’ style diffusion.
